Goethe’s Dream, curated by Sotirios Bahtsetzis (part of ARTECITYA*)

Theodoros Zafeirpoulos has been commisioned to create the work Homeland in the context of Goethe’s Dream, the first large-scale project by ARTECITYA THESSALONIKI AGENCY. The first public presentation will take place at Goethe Institut Thessaloniki on Monday the 23rd of November at 18.30 at Goethe Institut.

Homeland is an exhibition of a collection of approximately 4.500 soil (Land) samples, offered over the next three years by participants who have collected them from the place each one of them considers his/her homeland (Home). During specially conceived workshops the participants, using the rammed-earth technique, mold and cast the samples into the recesses of the wall that divides Goehte-Institut Thessaloniki and the Folklife and Ethnological Museum of Macedonia Thrace. The project’s central goal is to bring citizens of all social groups in contact with the primal and symbolic materiality of the soil (ground). A specially designed website will host the relevant information and data, functioning as a universal interactive communication channel (portal)

*Artecitya “Envisioning the City of Tomorrow” is a collaboration between 8 partners from around Europe. The project introduces artists and creators from various fields into the process of re-imagining and re-creating cities that are citizen-centric and creativity-oriented. The priority is to stimulate a vigorously innovative approach to the concept of urban life, taking into account the local context and the global circumstances.
